Work is in progress to honor Nelson Mandela on a Greenpoint building

A mural company is placing  a large image of  Nelson Mandela  on a building at the corner of Wythe Avenue and 13th Street in Greenpoint.

The former president of South Africa and the leader of the successful anti-apartheid movement died on Dec. 5 at age 95. Condolences and eulogies  poured in from millions around the world.

"You know, it could be a few people, but once I put his smile on there, he just has a beautiful face,"artist Jason  Coatney said of the mural.  "It's very humbling. I've painted for about 15 years on the sides of buildings, and I don't know that I've ever painted anything that I respected so much."

the company, Sky High Murals, is among the largest outdoor mural companies in the country.
