DeBlasio is next mayor, Eric Adams new beep; Hynes out, casino gambling in

Mayor-Elect Bill de Blasio

Bill de Blasio trounced his Republican opponent Joe Lhota by the same kind of margin that most polls predicted he would – a 50-point lead of 74 percent of the vote to Lhota's 24 percent.
Adolfo Carrion, the Independence candidate who waged a vigorous campaign, garnered less than 1 percent for all his efforts.

Democrat Eric Adams left his GOP opponent, Elias Weir, in the dust to become the new borough president of Brooklyn, succeeding the headline-generating Marty Markowitz, who was term-limited from seeking re-election.

After losing the Democratic primary, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes tried to keep his job by campaigning on the Republican and Conservative lines, but Democratic primary winner Kenneth Thompson never looked back – he scored a DeBlasio-like 74 percent-26 percent win.

Voters approved, by 57 percent to 43 percent, Proposition 1, which amends the state constitution to allow casino gambling in the Catskills and other locations around the state.
