Some of the historic tobacco warehouses near the Brooklyn Bridge – which have sat vacant for more than a half-century –  are to undergo a total transformation beginning next year.

Midtown Equities, a private development company, has been selected by the city to turn the warehouses into space for  restaurants, stores, and offices..

About an acre of new parkland  also will be developed, in accordance with city guidelines.
