The city Parks Department has begun installing temporary bathrooms on the boardwalk in Brighton Beach after construction glitches and opposition by many area residents thwarted plans for a permanent comfort station by the Oceana condominium complex.

The $2 million facilities – which look a little like something out of a space-alien movie – are on raised platforms in keeping with guidelines by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in case of any future Sandys.
